DURHAM — Voters at the Durham town meeting Saturday opted to stay with Pine Tree Waste to provide residents with curbside recycling and solid waste collection, Town Administrator Ruth Glaeser said.
The town received bids from two companies. Pine Tree Waste’s bid was 10.49 percent at $619,834 for a three-year contract.
But two Durham panels, selectmen and the Budget Committee, which examined the contracts, recommended voters stay with Pine Tree Waste out of the concerns over logistics of another company, and how the annual bulky waste day would be handled.
Voters passed the town budget of $1.19 million, about a 3.5 percent increase. That budget was also recommended by selectmen and the Budget Committee.
Voters also approved spending $321,680 for the Durham Fire and Rescue operating budget, an amount recommended by the selectmen and Budget Committee.
Despite a late-season snowstorm, “it was quite the turnout,” Glaeser said.
“We had as many as 158 residents in attendance,” up from last year’s 130 people, she said.
