JAY — Selectmen are expected to set the property tax rate when they meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at the town office.

Town Manager Ruth Cushman said she will give selectmen a range of $13.40 to $13.50 per $1,000 of property valuation.

The town has held the tax rate at $13 per $1,000 of value for the past three years, she said.

If the board goes with the $13.40 figure, it is less than a 3 percent increase, she said. It will give the town a $219,000 overlay, she said, compared to last year’s overlay of $356,000. The maximum the town could have for an overlay is about $700,000.

“So we’re being conservative,” Cushman said.

Central Maine Power Co. is scheduled to give a presentation on smart meters.

The board will also consider the resignation of Vice Chairman Warren Bryant, as of Aug. 2, and the possibility of a special election in November to fill the position.

Members are also slated to elect a vice chairman.
