HARRISON – Dawn and Harvey Solomon’s $1 million home is going on the auction block Aug. 30.
The property at 90 Zakelo Road is one of 10 owned by the Solomons in Norway, Paris and Harrison that have gone to lender-ordered auctions since March after Dawn Solomon was indicted for stealing $4 million from MaineCare.
Earlier this year, Dawn Solomon, was ordered to serve 42 months in state prison and pay restitution. She was given a stay of execution until June 6 in order to see her daughter graduate.
Solomon operated the Living Independence Network Corp. in Norway that provided behavior management and physical and social development services to children with mental disabilities.
The Maine Attorney General’s Healthcare Crimes Unit began unraveling her overbilling scheme after a state audit raised red flags in September 2009. Prosecutors say the fraud dated to 2006 with $87,000 in false billings per month before growing to an average of $134,000 per month in 2008.
Construction on the property at 90 Zakelo Road began in 2003, according to information from Tranzon Auction Properties of Portland who will auction the house.
The Solomon waterfront property on Long Lake sits on 7.2 acres of land with 435 feet of frontage on the eastern shore of Long Lake. The home is in various stages of completion and rehabilitation. The property is assessed by Harrison at $1,041,000, with $696,900 value in land and $344,300 value of the house, according to town records.
The 5,248 square-foot house includes a large great room with inlaid floors, stone hearth and deck access, master bedroom, open kitchen area and mudroom on the main floor. A deck that stretches across the house overlooks the lake. There is a finished basement with a bar, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and an unfinished second floor, according to information from Tranzon Auction Properties.
The Solomons owe the town of Harrison more than $20,000 in back taxes, including $9,920 from 2010 and $10,256 for 2011. If this year’s are not paid by Sept. 8, interest will start accruing. If the 2010 taxes are not paid by next February, the town would foreclose on the property, according to town officials.
The tax bills were sent to an address on Pikes Hill Road in Norway. Dawn Solomon still owns a home at 144 Pikes Hill Road, valued at $240,300. She owes the town of Norway $3,098 in taxes from last year, assessor Jodi Keniston said. A new tax bill is expected to be out this week.
Each of the Solomons’ properties have been listed under the ownership of either Dawn Solomon, Dawn and Harvey Solomon, Dawn Cummings (her maiden name) or New Horizon’s Capital Investment LLC. The Harrison property is listed under limited liability company name – the Solomons real estate holding company.
If the house is successfully auctioned off, the new owner will be responsible for all taxes.
The auction begins at the house at 11 a.m. Aug. 30, A preview of the home will be available Aug. 18 and 25 from 11 a.m. to noon.
