AUGUSTA — The Maine Woodcarvers Association 25th annual Woodcarvers and Wildlife Show and competition is coming to the Augusta Armory on Aug. 27 and 28. The show will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The Augusta Armory is located at 179 Western Ave.

There are usually about 200 carvings entered into the competition. Additionally, there are about 30 booths where carving related vendors and professional carvers display their wares. The annual show also features different carving demonstrations each hour that the show is open. One can view between 400 and 500 different carvings.

There will be a gift shop, raffles and door prizes. Carvings will be present in many categories including birds, decoys, wildlife, fish, caricatures, chip carving, inlay, marquetry, relief carving, feathers, flowers, canes, walking sticks, folk art, bowls, intarsia, wood turning and scroll saw. The featured carver this year is Ed Hawkes from Maine. The annual show is the largest woodcarving venue in Maine.
