LEWISTON – B. Jane Cronin, 93, of Montello Manor, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 19th, with her loving daughter Nancy by her side, hand in hand.
She was born in Bowdoinham, Maine on Sept. 14, 1929, the daughter of Lawrence and Margaret Dunn Rideout.
She attended schools in Lewiston and worked all of her life in the hospitality business. She worked at resorts in Florida and in Maine. Among them, Poland Spring Inn, Dewitt Hotel, Holiday Inn and retiring from John Martin’s. She was the “Hostess with the Mostess!”
Jane enjoyed traveling and visited many countries in her younger years. But her favorite was taking a winter break to one of the many Caribbean Islands. She also enjoyed her gambling excursions to Foxwoods, Atlantic City, Vegas, Biloxi, Nassau and Oxford Casino.
She enjoyed doing the daily crossword puzzle and did it in ink, but Scrabble was her game. Seldom did anyone beat her. Jane enjoyed her weekly games with her friends Connie, Linda and Paulette. She also enjoyed feeding and watching “her birds”.
She had a heart of gold and helped so many people through difficult times. She will be missed by many.
She is survived by her daughters Nancy Higgins and Mary Cronin Finn of Lewiston, Linda Cloutier of New York, son James Dennis of Florida and two step daughters Lorraine Cronin of Massachusetts and Kathleen Cronin Berner of Florida. She is also survived by her brother Raymond Rideout of Florida.
She was predeceased by her husband E. Raymond Cronin and her sisters, Mary and Cecelia. Jane was also predeceased, by her loving companion in later life, Thomas Roper.
She leaves behind many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and one nephew, and great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Montello Manor and Androscoggin Home Health and Hospice for the excellent care that they provided for her.
Visitation at The Fortin Group in Auburn will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A Liturgy of the Word will occur Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 1 p.m., at The Fortin Group in Auburn. Committal Prayers at Mt. Hope cemetery will occur Thursday, May 25, 2023.
