One of the most elaborate and costly monuments ever built in this vicinity will be erected for Frank A. Munsey of New York by the firm of J. J. McKenna of this city. This magnificent piece of marble work will be erected at the family lot at Lisbon Falls at Hillside Cemetery.
Something of the quality can be understood when it is known that the cost will be about $30,000. The material will be pink Milford granite and this is of the best quality.
50 years ago, 1961
Approval of a June Dairy observance in the Lewiston-Auburn area next year was voted Aug. 27 at a meeting of the Maine Dairy Club.
Miss Hazel Hotham of Auburn, club president, presided at the affair at which initial plans were made for the annual observance to include an elaborate Dairy Day parade and a Dairy Princess contest and coronation.
25 years ago, 1986
JAY — In recognition of his 40 years of dedicated service to the Jay Fire Department, Alex Donald was presented with a service plaque by Chief Larry Melcher on Monday night.
In making the presentation, Melcher noted that Donald had been an active member of the department since 1946, having served the past several years as lieutenant and captain. A gold lifetime membership card from the Maine State Federation of Firefighters Association was presented to Donald.
