LEWISTON — A woman was seriously injured early Thursday when she drove into the back of a truck hauling a utility pole, which broke through her vehicle’s windshield.
Police have not yet identified the injured woman. She was taken by a LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she was listed in serious condition later Thursday.
The 8 a.m. crash on Lisbon Street was related to an earlier wreck in which a box truck caught a low-hanging wire, bringing down a pole at Lisbon and Prospect streets at about 5:15 a.m. Lisbon Street was closed to traffic following that crash while Central Maine Power Co. crews made repairs to the pole.
About three hours later, the second crash occurred in the area of 1198 Lisbon St., police said, as a truck was hauling a new pole to the location of the first crash.
The Lewiston Police Accident Reconstruction team responded along with the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit.
A section of Lisbon Street was closed for much of Thursday as the investigation continued, but the road was expected to reopen by the evening commute.
