FARMINGTON — Verna Mae Southern, 88, a resident of Livermore Falls, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Verna had previously resided at Victorian Villa Nursing Home in Canton for the past two years.
She was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Strong, the daughter of William Southern and Doris T. Bean Risser. Verna was a 1943 graduate of Livermore Falls High School. Following graduation, she worked at the South Portland Shipyard during World War II. She had also worked for Norwalk Shoe, Forster Manufacturing and retired from Bass Shoe in Wilton in 1983. Verna was a member of the First Baptist Church of Livermore Falls. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Verna was a devoted daughter and made her home with her mother throughout her lifetime.
She is survived by her brother, Donald Southern and his wife, Joan, of Livermore Falls; three nephews, Ronald, Charles and Walter Southern; three nieces, Lyn and Lisa Southern, and Jessica Whitney; and friend, Bernice Allen and her husband, Charles. She was predeceased by her brother, Ronald Southern.
