Montell “Bummy” Kennedy

DIXFIELD – Montell “Bummy” Kennedy, 72, finished his journey on earth at his piece of heaven at Dummer’s Beach in Weld. He was a resident of Weld Street in Dixfield.

Born in Farmington, on May 22, 1951, he was a son of Carl and Gwendolyn (Brackett) Kennedy. He was a graduate of Stephen’s High School class of 1969. Bummy worked as a Boiler Engineer for Stowell McGregor, School Bus Driver for the Dixfield School District and maintenance at Dummer’s Beach in the summer. He served as firefighter for 50 years for the Town of Dixfield, he was a member of the Dixfield Congregational Church, member and Past Master of Masonic Lodge, member and Past Patron of Eastern Star, member of the Shriner’s and was very involved in his community of Dixfield having held numerous seats in the town such as selectman, and water committee, and the scholarship committee. Bummy was a humble man, who had a kind thing to say about everyone. He enjoyed his time as a bus driver, where he touched the hearts of many kids. His family was his greatest joy. He was awarded Dixfield Distinguished Citizen of the Year in 2009.

Bummy was married in Dixfield, on May 22, 1975, to Marjorie Jordan who survives of Dixfield. Other survivors include his daughters, Tyrene Child, and her husband Ethan of Dixfield and Taja Walton and her husband Scott of Dixfield, his grandchildren who he was very proud of, Seth Child and fiancé Bethany, Nate Child and companion Flesha Paradis, Morgan Packard and companion Derek Richard, great grandson Everett, brothers Glennwood Kennedy and wife Carol of Carver, Mass., and Carol Kennedy and wife Sharon Rumford, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Rodney, a sister Sheila Haley, and a brother Byron.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday Sept. 4, 2023, at the Dixfield Congregational Church. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Dixfield. Friends and family are invited to call at the Meader & Son Funeral Home 3 Franklin St Rumford, ME on Sunday September 3, 2023, from 4-8 p.m.
