CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Due to the recent flood damage, Saturday’s household hazardous waste collection has been canceled.

Residents can take their hazardous waste to either of the two remaining collection sites in Franklin County, Rangeley or Kingfield.

The first collection takes place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Rangeley Transfer Station, 682 Loon Lake Road.

The second takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Kingfield Transfer Station, 304 Lexington Road.

The Environmental Depot at 424 River Road at the Lewiston Solid Waste Facility is also open 8 a.m. to noon on the first and third Saturdays of the month, May through November (except holiday weekends), to accept household hazardous waste at no cost to many towns in the region.

For more information, residents may contact Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments at 783-9186 or visit www.avcog.org.

Residents are asked to bring their hazardous wastes to the event in original containers, if possible. Leaking containers can be placed in plastic bags or cardboard boxes.

These events are part of the ongoing Western Maine Environmental Depot Collection Program run by AVCOG in conjunction with the municipalities in the AVCOG region and a private, qualified contractor.
