Pamela Child Mackenzie

PERU – Pamela Child Mackenzie, born on Jan. 28, 1951, at Rumford Hospital, was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away on Oct. 4, 2023, at Maine Medical Center, surrounded by her loved ones.

Pamela was known for her unwavering devotion to her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures and had a deep appreciation for fine dining, traveling, and the arts.

Her professional life was dedicated to nursing, with a specialization in psychiatric services, where she exhibited care and empathy for those she served. Pamela’s commitment to helping others extended beyond her work, as she was a dedicated volunteer and took an active role in her children’s education and extracurricular activities, particularly at St. Athanasius and St. John School. She also took an active role in her community, having served on the school board of Peru schools and as a selectperson for the town of Peru.

Her greatest achievements are not captured by formal titles or employment. They reside in the moment to moment love, energy and infectious enthusiasm for life that Pamela possessed. All who were lucky enough to experience her presence will not soon forget her unique soul.

Pamela was predeceased by her husband, Bruce Mackenzie.

She is survived by her children, Jonathan Mackenzie and Amber Mackenzie; as well as her cherished grandchildren, Jonathan Patrick Kelley and Juliet Mackenzie Kelley. She is also survived by her loving brothers and sister; and countless close friends.

A celebration of Pamela’s life will be held at Meader and Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St. in Rumford, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20. It is an opportunity for friends and family to come together to remember and honor a person who touched the lives of many with her kindness, friendship and generosity.
