AUGUSTA — Muriel McDonald Tripp, 87, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Augusta Rehabilitation Center, where she has been living for the past six months, following failing health.

Born in Riley on Aug. 23, 1924, she was the daughter of Frank William McDonald and Thelma Gertrude Winslow McDonald. Muriel was educated in Riley and Jay schools, graduating from Jay High School in June 1941. On Dec. 8, 1942, in Bainbridge, Ga., she married Lawrence Cleveland Tripp of Poland. Muriel and Lawrence lived in York for 46 years.

Muriel had seven brothers, Alvin and his wife, Kitty, of Dryden, Vern and his wife, Dotty, of Wilton, Douglas and his wife, Barb, Carroll (deceased April 3, 1999) and his wife, Peggy, Olin and his wife, Anita, Brent and his wife, Patty and Clovis and his wife, Vicki, all of Jay.

Muriel and Lawrence (deceased Nov. 14, 1987) had three boys, Bernal McDonald Tripp, Lloyd Melvin Tripp (deceased Sept. 8, 1986) and wife, Brenda Wheeler Tripp and Parker Kent Tripp and wife, Rita Durrell Tripp. Muriel was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Muriel worked in nursing for 23 years at York Hospital and Dr. Taylor’s office in Kittery. Muriel and Lawrence enjoyed many years of square dancing, rock hounding and camping in Nova Scotia, where Lawrence’s mother came from.

Muriel was an active member of the United Methodist Church in York. Muriel had many years as a volunteer at York Hospital and Maine General in Augusta. She also volunteered with hospice and the Senior Center of York.

She was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, Sarah Orne Jewett Chapter No. 176 and Fadette Chapter No. 166 of York. Muriel loved cooking and being with her family. ‘Mid’ will be missed by her family.
