LISBON FALLS — They fish the dangerous waters of the Gulf of Maine, giving vigilance to the weather and the seasons.
Lobstering is their only source of income.
Trapping lobster is in their blood, a part of their gene makeup, an inheritance from generations of lobstermen and deep-sea fishermen.
Local author Eugene P. Elcik’s latest book, “The Lobsterman of Deep Cove, Maine,” shares the adventure, danger and passion Tom Harpswell experences while hauling lobster. He has lost friends and family to the sea — and wonders if he’ll be next.
Competition among lobstermen can be strong, however, they can also band together, sometimes taking the law into their own hands. In “The Lobsterman,” haulers clash with lobster poachers in Deep Cove.
Elcik is a 78-year-old Maine native who has worked as a civilian recreation naval officer, adjunct college instructor and commercial appraiser.
“The Lobsterman” and another recent novel, “Desperation of Souls,” are available on amazon.com and Kindle. Elcik expects to release a book titled “Challenges” this fall and is working on another novel set in Durham.
