Gerard L. “Jerry” Comeau

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Gerard L. “Jerry” Comeau passed away on Dec. 3, 2023, at The Grimes Center in New Haven, Conn. after a long illness.

Jerry, the son of Arthur N. Comeau and Marie Jeanne (Samson) Comeau, was born in Auburn on Sept. 11, 1934. Jerry graduated from St. Dominic’s High School in Lewiston. He then served three enlisted years with the Army as a medical specialist and another five years in the Army reserves. He attended Springfield College where he played football and graduated with a B.S. degree in 1960.

He was employed by Traveler’s Insurance Company for 31 years in agency operations management and retired in 1991. Upon retiring from Traveler’s, Jerry embarked as an instructor and facilitator with McCourt Associates out of Westport, Conn. Jerry traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe conducting seminars and was well known and respected in his new field.

Jerry met his wife, Sallie McMillan, while they were students at Springfield College. They married in 1959, and settled down in North Branford, Conn. where they raised their three sons. Jerry was highly involved in coaching youth athletics and was one of the founding fathers of North Branford’s midget (youth) football program.

Some of the things he will be most fondly remembered for are love and support of family, love of sports, Patriot and Red Sox games and trips to Maui and friendships formed there.

Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Sallie K. (McMillan) Comeau in 2010; and brother-in-law, Paul S. Nadeau in 2015.

Jerry is survived by his three sons, Todd and Carla Comeau of Pittsfield, Mass., Greg and Suzanne Comeau of Southington, Conn., and Drew and Emily Comeau of Middletown, Conn.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dr. Allison, Dan, Eva, Brody and Lylah Boothby, Melanie Comeau, Giorgia Comeau, Evan Comeau, Amber Comeau and Ashley Comeau; siblings, Carmen J. Comeau and spouse Dr. Stuart R. Cohen of Lewiston, and Cecile Y. Nadeau of Auburn.

Jerry’s memorial and final resting place will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Lewiston, at a later date. He will join his wife Sallie, and his father and mother in the Comeau family plot.

The Comeau family would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to the employees of the Grimes Center and Connecticut Hospice for the care and love they showed while caring for our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, family member and friend.
