Mary L. Dorr Chipman

POLAND – Mary L. Dorr Chipman, 88, passed away Dec. 24, 2023. She was born in Cumberland in 1935, thhe daughter of Kenneth R. Dorr Sr. and Esther L. Donovan Dorr.

Mary was a graduate of Greely Institute in the Class of 1953 and Golden School of Beauty Culture in June of 1954. She married Ellsworth H. “Sonny” Chipman in June 1954.

Mary enjoyed traveling and gardening. Mary was a good friend to many and always supported the community.

Mary owned and operated “Mary’s Beauty Shop” in Poland for many years, retiring the shop to take part in the operation of the farm and farmstands, retiring from the farm in 2000.

Mary is survived by sons, Ronald E. Chipman and partner Brenda Libby and Douglas G. Chipman, and her devoted daughter Jane E. Chipman and partner John Ragucci; her siblings, sisters Joan Brown of Cumberland and favorite sister Donna T. Dorr of Brunswick, and brothers Robert E. Dorr of Waldoboro, John D. Dorr of Jackman, Michael Dorr of Gray and William “Bill” Dorr San Diego, Calif.

Mary is also survived by six granddaughters, Amy Finley, Heidi Chipman, Tomi Marie Ricker, Alana Chipman, Georgia Noonan and her namesake Marybeth Noonan; six great-grandchildren, Evan, Catherine, Conor, Hazel, Sammie and Jessie; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews/

Mary was predeceased by her only love, her husband of 68 years Ellsworth “Sonny” Chipman; sister Esther Safford and brothers Kenneth R. Dorr, Jr., James R. Dorr and Charles A. Dorr.

Private family burial will be held in the Summer of 2024.
