Dean C. Dickinson
TURNER – Dean C. Dickinson, 85, a resident of Turner, passed away Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 18, 1938, in Lewiston, the son of Eric Dickinson and Alta (Haskell) Dickinson.
He was a 1957 graduate of Edward Little High School. He worked for his father’s moving company for two years with his brother before joining the U.S. Air Force. He proudly served for four years and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, Bangor, Maine, and Greenland. In 1958 he married Mary Ella Brown; she predeceased him due to an automobile accident in 1981. He later married Patricia Twitchell on April 18, 1983, in Lisbon Falls.
Dean was a truck driver for Sanborn Motor Express for 28 years, he later drove school buses for 16 years starting in Fayette and then SAD 52 in Turner, Leeds, and Greene.
Dean was a longtime member of the Teamsters Local 340. He was very active with his children’s and grandchildren’s sports, from little league through college, especially football. He was a die-hard Leavitt Hornets fan. Dean loved snowmobiling with his sons, he started snow skiing with Mary and the boys at Pine Haven. He enjoyed teaching his sons how to drive. He had lots of driving tricks. He had a great joy for boating, he also taught his sons how to drive the boat. Dean was always very proud of his son’s accomplishments. In his younger years, he kept his boat at the Wallace Marina and at the Harraseeket Yacht Club in Freeport.
He and Pat did a lot of traveling visiting Ireland, England, Scotland, Alaska and on Island Cruises. They loved rides to Boothbay Harbor in their 1956 Crown Victoria and also showing it in parades around the area. Dean loved his workshop; it was 1st class and his “happy place”. He made furniture for his family and friends and remodeled all of his homes.
He will be remembered for his love of family and all the wonderful teachings he shared with them.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Dickinson of Turner; his sons, Leif Dickinson and wife Luna of Queens, NY, and Bart Dickinson and wife Rachelle of Lewiston, stepchildren, Harry Ricker and wife Nancy and Heidi Hewison; grandchildren, Hannah, Alta, Hunter; and great-grandson Easton. Funeral services with military honors will be held 11a.m., Saturday, Jan. 6 at Faith Bible Chapel, 388 Bryant Road, Buckfield, Maine. Interment at Turner Village Cemetery in the spring.
