Rug braiding

MEXICO — Rug braiding classes will begin Tuesday, Sept. 20, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Green Church. Beginners welcome.

I lieu of a cost, participants are asked to make a donation to the Green Church for the use of the space.

Instructor will be Natalie Reed, along with her daughter, Julieanne. Natalie has been teaching rug braiding in the Mexico/Rumford area for more than 40 years. She continues, at age 81, to teach the classes because she loves to braid and loves to share the craft.

NEW PORTLAND — Western Mountains Baptist Church members have moved into the new building at 929 Carrabassett Road.

Sunday school for all ages begins at 9 a.m. The church services begin at 10 a.m. Nursery and children’s church is provided during the service. Coffee, juice and snacks are available and all are welcome.

Youth group for grades 7-12 meet at the new church on Thursday nights from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Festival education

JAY — Spruce Mountain Adult Education will have a booth at the Apple Pumpkin Festival on Saturday, Sept. 24. Attendees may sign up for one of  three free drawings.

The drawing will be held at the learning center open house on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to noon at 13 Community Drive.

Participants may meet the staff, sign up for a class or get information on sharing a hobby or skill with the community.

There is still time to sign up for the following enrichment courses: Introduction to reflexology, quilting, Spanish for beginners or Beacon Hospice volunteer. Call 897-6384 to register.

Journey Home

WILTON — Journey Home will be in concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at the East Wilton Union Church on Main Street. Journey Home is a family gospel group that resides in Wilton. They have been ministering in the New England states since 2001 and offer a blend of gospel music.

The concert is free. All are welcome. There will be an opportunity for a free-will offering. A time of food and fellowship will follow the concert.

Arts, crafts meetings

FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Arts and Crafts Association has scheduled three meetings this fall leading to the annual Christmas crafts fair Dec. 3.

The first meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the University of Maine at Farmington Student Center North Dining Hall. It will begin at 6:30 with registration for the fair, followed by a business session at 7.

Subsequent meetings at the same location and time are scheduled for Oct. 25 and Nov. 17.

The organization is made up of crafters and artists in the greater Franklin County area who display and sell originally-made items at the fair, which is also held at the Student Center.

New crafters are welcome to the meetings. Additional information may be obtained by calling 778-6967 or 778-2791.

DAR meeting

ANDOVER — The Colonial Daughters Farmington chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the First Congregational Church, Route 120. Members are to bring a bag lunch. The guest speaker will be Jasmine Savio of the Lewiston Veterans Center. There will be a memorial tribute commemorating the 9/11 events.
