LEWISTON — The city of Lewiston will make improvements to its communications and phone system Saturday from 7 a.m. to about 11 a.m. to address capacity issues with the communications infrastructure, according to city officials.

During this time, the communications and phone system, including the fire and police departments, will be temporarily unavailable. As a result, those departments will be unable to receive calls.

City officials advise those who need to contact the city’s fire and/or police departments should call the nonemergency number at 207-784-6421. After being prompted, callers will be connected to a dispatcher.

In case of emergencies, residents should call 911 for immediate assistance.
