AUBURN — Florence I. Chandonnet, 88, formerly of 285 Russell St. and Montello Heights, died Friday, Sept. 23, in the hands of her family and the staff of Clover Healthcare, where she had resided for the past three years.

She was born in Lewiston May 21, 1923, the eldest daughter of the late Joseph and Adeliane Gosselin Martin. She shared her childhood home with her sister, Lorraine, and brother, Donald. She was educated in Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1941. She later married Gerard A. Chandonnet on June 24, 1945, and together they raised their only daughter, Carol.

She worked for many years at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center as a cashier in their business office. In her leisure time, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and later her great-grandchildren, sunning herself at the beach, taking trips and vacations with friends and family, playing cards, bowling, and working on various sewing projects for family. She also was a longtime volunteer at Central Maine Medical Center in her retirement.

She leaves her daughter, Carol Provencher and her husband, Roger, of Lewiston; her grandchildren, Jason Provencher and his wife, Tina, of Portland, and Renee Courtemanche and her husband, Michael, of Lewiston; four great-grandchildren, Marin and Elise Provencher and Samuel and Anna Courtemanche; a brother, Donald Martin; and a sister, Lorraine Samson, both of Lewiston.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gerard, on Oct. 12, 1993.

Florence and her family are grateful for the wonderful care she received on Kerry Place and Galway Place at Clover Healthcare over the past few years. And an extra special thanks is extended to James Parker for his compassion and kindness as he always looked to make Florence’s days at Clover a bit brighter.

Family and friends are invited to offer condolences and pay tribute to Florence’s life by visiting her guest book at www.thefortingrouplewiston.com.
