LIVERMORE FALLS – Data presented to the RSU 73 board Thursday shows that the percentage of students showing proficiency on SATs over three years still needs improvement at both campuses of Spruce Mountain High School.
The district is proposing to use a second year of a school improvement grant to help increase students’ achievements.
North Campus math teacher Annette Girardin compiled three years of the percentage of students scoring proficient in subject matters in 2009, 2010 and 2011, Superintendent Bob Wall said.
The testing information is based on when the two schools were separate and known as Jay High School and Livermore Falls High School. The 2012 test will be taken for the first time as a consolidated high school with two campuses. Jay is now known as North Campus and Livermore Falls as the South Campus.
According to the 2009 data, 45 percent of students at the North Campus were proficient in reading, compared to 27 percent at the South Campus. The state average was 49 percent.
In the 2010 data, 45 percent of students at the North Campus were proficient in reading, and 34 percent at the South Campus. The state average was 48 percent.
In the spring of 2011, 38 percent of the students at the North Campus were proficient in reading, and 37 percent at the South Campus. The state average was 50 percent.
In writing, 43 percent of students at the North Campus were proficient in 2009, 50 percent in 2010 and 40 percent in 2011.
At the South Campus, 23 percent of students were proficient in writing in 2009, 36 percent in 2010, and 34 percent in 2011.
The data indicates that overall, 37 percent of students were proficient in writing in 2011 compared to the state average of 45.
In math, 25 percent of students were proficient at the North Campus, 35 percent in 2010, and 33 percent in 2011.
For the same subject, 24 percent of students at the South Campus were proficient in 2009, 29 percent in 2010, and 37 percent in 2011.
In science, 31 percent of students at North Campus were proficient in 2009, 39 percent in 2010, and 43 percent in 2011.
South Campus data shows that 24 percent of students were proficient in 2009, 37 percent in 2010, and 46 percent in 2011.
Combined, data shows that 45 percent of students tested proficient in science this past spring, compared to 49 percent in the state.
