FARMINGTON — A commitment to safety in all municipal workplaces has resulted in a refund for the town from the Maine Municipal Association.
The town received a $2,856 workers’ compensation fund dividend this week, Town Manager Richard Davis said.
It is a result of a good loss experience and prevention programs. Experience rating projects future losses using the town’s past claims history.
Three self-funded pools are offered to municipalities through MMA, the Workers’ Compensation Fund, the Property and Casualty Pool and the Unemployment Compensation Fund.
Governed by boards, each year the boards review the programs’ experience loss to determine if dividends may be paid. More than 75 percent of program participants receive dividends each year for their good risk management practices and loss experience, Patricia Kablitz, director of Risk Management Services for MMA, said in a release.
Since 1997, the three programs have returned close to $14 million in dividends to participating members.
