Nearly 50 young dancers from across southern Maine will take the stage on Saturday, Oct. 15 and 22, when the Maine State Ballet presents its version of the classic story “Hansel and Gretel.” The show features an imaginative set, intricately designed costumes and the music of Engelbert Humperdinck’s famous opera. It tells the tale of a brother and sister who get lost in the woods and stumble upon a Gingerbread House, where they must find a way to outwit the Gingerbread Witch before she outwits them. “Hansel and Gretel” will be performed each Saturday at 1 and 4 p.m. at the ballet company’s recently renovated theater at 348 U.S. Route 1 in Falmouth. For tickets, $15, call 781-3587 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or visit www.mainestateballet.org.
