WESTBROOK — WinterKids has opened the WinterKids Downhill 24 Outdoor Fund 2024 application window.
This marks the third year of the Downhill 24 Outdoor Fund, continuing WinterKids’ efforts to expand access to outdoor activities among children throughout Maine.
The fund seeks to remove barriers that prevent children from participating in healthy outdoor activities, such as limited access to proper equipment, clothing and transportation. This year, WinterKids will distribute a total of $25,000 in grants to 10 organizations, divided among three Maine public schools, three Maine parks and recreation programs, three Maine nonprofit organizations, and one honorable mention.
Interested organizations are encouraged to apply through winterkids.org by the application deadline of Friday, June 14. Winners will be selected through a community voting process and announced later in the summer.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
