Valarie Ann MacDowell
LEWISTON – Valarie Ann MacDowell, 77, a resident of Federal Road, Livermore, died on June 4, 2024.
She was born May 14, 1947, in Lewiston, the daughter of Donald Edwin and Thelma Lillian (Mackillop) MacDowell. She received her education in the Livermore schools and graduated from Livermore Falls High School.
She received her B.S. from UMF and her master’s USM. She taught kindergarten for MSAD#36 for 41 years. During that time, she taught in four different schools in the district, Payson Smith School, Livermore Elementary School, Fayette Central and the Primary School (PLC later known as the primary Learning Center). She was listed in the Who’s Who among America’s Teacher twice, nominated for a Disney Teacher of the Year award in 2003-2004. She was also a member of MEA, NEA and the local National Council of Young Children. She had been a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, the Kappa chapter.
Valarie was a member of the North Livermore Baptist Church and worked on the Board of Deacons and the Christian Education Board, Cheer Committee and Chair of the Mission Committee. She also taught Sunday School for 42 years.
Valarie enjoyed camping and had driven across the country three times and to Texas twice, having visited 40 states and five provinces of Canada. She was a member of the Winnebago-Itasca Travelers. She loved reading, doing many crafts and quilting as well as being a baseball, football and ice hockey fan.
She is survived by three nephews, Michael MacDowell in Bigfork, Mont., and Joseph and wife Elisbeth MacDowell and their daughter Tara in Newell, S.D., and Jonathan MacDowell in Meridian, Idaho; four great-nieces, Angela MacDowell in Bigfork, Mont., Frances Freeman, Virginia, and Brittany Victoria MacDowell in South Dakota, Chloe MacDowell in Maridian, Idaho, and a great-nephew, Noah MacDowell in Meridian, Idaho.
She was predeceased by her parents; and her brother, James MacDowell.

Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Saturday, June 15 at Finley Funeral Home, 15 Church St., Livermore Falls. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, June 16 at Finley Funeral Home, followed by a reception at North Livermore Baptist Church, 619 Federal Rd., Livermore, ME 04253. Burial will be immediately after reception at Lakeside Cemetery in Bryant Pond.
