Claire Roger Anctil

GREENE – Claire Roger Anctil, 85, of Greene and formerly a longtime resident of East Avenue, Lewiston, passed away peacefully at her home with her loving sons by her side on May 29, 2024.

Claire was an amazing woman who was ahead of her time. Despite living with Rheumatoid Arthritis, one would be hard pressed to recall ever hearing Claire complain. She lived her life in a manner that exemplified kindness, her sense of humor and twinkle in her eye let everyone know her recollection of the past and understanding of the present were spot on.

Claire married Raymond Anctil in 1957. Together she and Ray built a good life and kept busy raising their four sons. Claire was a lifelong learner, earning a degree in Social Services and graduating from USM, all while raising a family with Ray at her side. They remained devoted to each other until Ray’s passing in March of last year.

In her retirement Claire surrounded herself with a wonderful circle of caring friends with similar interests. Her love of literature was superseded by the love she had for her book club members. Monthly meetings, always held at her home, consisted of spirited book discussions followed by tea, sweets, and lively conversations where the circle of trust allowed all to speak freely with the utmost trust and respect.

Claire appreciated the smallest acts of kindness; always understanding how busy life could be, and never wanting anyone to be inconvenienced. Visits from her family; especially grand and great-grandchildren were always an especially great joy for both she and Ray. She will be sorely missed by so many.

Claire was predeceased by her husband, Ray of 65 years; her son, Mark; brothers Paul and Normand; and her parents Berthe and Treffle.

She is survived by her three sons, Kerry, Steve and John; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
