A Portland man who police say was in the process of making a bomb is facing multiple charges after allegedly threatening a former domestic partner and a member of the judiciary.

Daryl Walsh, 39, was taken into custody around 5:30 p.m. Saturday at 22 Runnels St. after a high-risk search warrant was executed by the Portland Police Department’s special teams with assistance from the Maine State Police tactical unit.

Police said they received a tip about the threats earlier in the day.

“We were told that he was armed and in the process of constructing a bomb. Investigators were able to apply for a search warrant that led to the discovery of evidence to support the concern,” spokesperson Brad Nadeau said in a statement.

Walsh was charged with terrorizing, criminal use of explosives and violation of a protection order. He is being held at the Cumberland County Jail.
