Gwendolyn G. (White) Vye

LEWISTON – Gwendolyn G. (White) Vye, 103, of Lisbon passed away on July 9, 2024, at D’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston.

Gwen was born on May 11, 1921, in Lisbon, the one and only child of Elmer E. and Mabel (Coffin) White. She was one of four classmates that graduated at 17 from Lisbon High School in the class of 1938. She later attended Bliss Business College in Lewiston. After working at Farnsworth Mill, Lisbon Center, she turned to a banking career. She worked for Lewiston Trust Co. and Lisbon Falls for seven-and-a-half years and later at the now Bank of America in Lewiston from 1951 to 1986.

In 1957, she married Albert H. Vye Sr., and they were together for 47 years until his passing in May of 2005. Gwen was an avid reader, Bingo player, and crossword puzzles. She would always feed a flock of her favorite “chickadees” daily for many years. She was a member of Lewiston Senior Citizens, Lisbon Cemetery Association, Horizon 51, Covenant 50 and AARP.

She is survived by a stepson, Albert H. Vye Jr. of Brunswick; step-granddaughter, Leandra of Virginia; plus many generations of nieces, nephews, cousins and very good friends.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband; and beloved cat, Lucky.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday July 17 at 11 a.m., at Lisbon Cemetery on Ferry Road.
