West Minot was the biggest and reddest spot on the map of Maine on Wednesday, when the grangers entertained Pomona and the governor of the state.
The day cleared warm and sunny, the roads were in prime condition, some sixty cars rolled into parking quarters near the hall and nearly 300 people heard Gov. Baxter discuss state problems.
50 Years Ago: 1974
Someone made himself at home recently at an Auburn residence, according to a report made to police this morning. Albert Marston of 23 Spring St., Auburn, reported that upon awakening this morning he discovered someone had made a fresh batch of coffee and had taken a bath while he was asleep. Marston could not identify his mystery visitor.
25 Years Ago: 1999
More than 100 workers laid off from Acorn Products in Lewiston in the spring could get federal money for job training to help them with future employment.
Sen. Olympia Snowe’s office announced Monday that Acorn employees in Hampden and Lewiston are eligible for federal retraining assistance.
