WILTON – Colette A. DeSotto, 84, a resident of Wilton, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Andwell Hospice House in Auburn.

She was born on July 21, 1940, in Coburn Gore, Maine, the daughter of Alfred and Simone (Drouin) Grondin. She was a 1958 graduate of Jay High School.

Colette worked for many years for Kyes Insurance in the Commercial Lines division. Colette married Robert DeSotto on Sept. 22, 1962, at St. Mary’s Church in Wilton. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Parish in Farmington.

Colette was an accomplished quilter and a member of the County Square Quilters group. Over the years she made many beautiful handmade gifts for family and friends. Colette enjoyed cross country skiing, square dancing, sewing, needlework and gardening. She was a wonderful hostess and cook. Her Christmas cookie platters and fudge were enjoyed by many. Robert and Colette had a basketmaking business for 12 years. They created quilting/needlework baskets for projects and tools as well as covers for feather weight sewing machines.

Their work was sold in a variety of shops in the state. During their retirement they spent 10 winters in Florida. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

Colette is survived by her husband Robert of Wilton; her son David and daughter-in-law Janie and family of El Paso, Texas, son John and daughter-in-law Nancy of Epping, NH; and granddaughters Kristine Schmoke and husband Tim and Lauren Seaman and husband Michael; and three great granddaughters.

She is also survived by brother Marcel Grondin of Jay, brother Gaston and wife Brenda of Jay, brother-in-law, Daniel Caravaggio of Franklin, Mass.; sisters Diane McDonald and husband Jeff of Jay and Denise Ouellette and husband Fred of Wells and sister-in-law Donna Grondin of Turner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Daniel and Claude Grondin and her sister Lisette Caravaggio and sister-in-law Linda Grondin.
