To the Editor:
It is exciting to hear the humble comments about service from Vice President Harris and Governor Walz. Vice President Harris has served the public for many years as a DA, Attorney General, Senator, and currently as Vice President. Governor Walz has served in the military for 24 years and has been a teacher and a coach.
The importance of serving our community applies to our local candidates as well. Bruce Bryant, candidate for State Senate for District #19, was Union 900 President focusing on safe working conditions and fair pay. As a previous legislator, he continued to advocate for working people, as well as conservation, veterans, and quality education in our rural schools. Bruce would like to return to the Senate to represent our area, which he has successfully done before.
Eric Giroux is running to represent District #78 which consists of Rumford, Bethel, Byron, Milton, Roxbury, and Hanover. Eric is all about community service and works for MedCare, Bethel Rescue, is a part-time school bus driver, and serves as a fireman and animal control officer in several area towns. Caring for our community, safety, and education are his top priorities.
Western Maine should be excited about the strength of candidates this year who care about our community.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
