Delance E. White

SCARBOROUGH – Delance E. White, 81, of Jay, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough, with his loving family by side. He was born July 5, 1943, in Livermore Falls, the son of Linton and Maisie (Nichols) White.

He was a 1961 graduate of Livermore Falls High School, where he excelled in sports. Following school, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy. On Jan. 21, 1967, he married Terry Spydell. They enjoyed 55 years together before her passing on March 8, 2022.

He worked as an instrumentation technician (he was proficient at harassing co-workers) for International Paper and Verso at the Androscoggin Mill in Jay until his retirement. He was a member of the IP Company Quarter Century Club, Local #14, VFW Post #3335, Amvets Post #33, and served on the planning board for the Town of Jay for several years. He was involved with AYS as a member of the Board of Directors and coach for football, softball, baseball and girls’ basketball, he had also coached high school football, softball and basketball.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, following his daughter’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events and “therapy” day consisted of playing poker with the boys followed by cribbage at the VFW in Jay. He was well known at the local eating establishments in Jay, Livermore Falls and Rangeley.

He is survived by his daughters Tanya and Mario DeMillo of Jay, Tracy and Alan Levesque of Hollis and Tricia and Brian Roy of Rangeley; six grandchildren, Brandon (Danielle), Kaylie (David) and Jordan DeMillo, Brady and Nicole Therrien, and Andre Roy; nine great-grandchildren Brian David and his Mom Mindy, Bradley, Brooklynn, Ariya, Jaxson, Jacksyn, Lexie, Benjamin, and Kinsley. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Terry, his grandson, Matthew Roy, great-granddaughter, Avery Stanley, and siblings, Reggie, Pearl, Phyllis, Leon, Linwood, Lester, Valcena, Janice and Faye.

A memorial service with military honors will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, August 31 at FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., prior to the funeral service. Interment Pleasant View Cemetery, 51 Fayette Road, Livermore Falls, Maine.
