100 Years Ago: 1924
Roland Chandler had a strange experience recently when he went to his cottage at Sabbathday Lake and was unable to unlock the door as someone had locked it on the inside.
He went to a neighbor’s for assistance and upon their return they found the offenders had fled.
They had a fire in the fireplace and also in the kitchen range and had been making fudge. They had used the garage also and had made themselves much at home.
50 Years Ago: 1974
The Lewiston Police Commission Tuesday named Officer Charles Walton to serve in the Police-School Liaison Program.
Officer Walton was selected from a number of applicants to fill the liaison post vacated last spring by the promotion of Sgt. Bertrand Gardiner.
Officer Walton’s promotion now fills the full complement of positions in the department, according to Deputy Police Chief Laurent Veilleux.
25 Years Ago: 1999
Chip Bowie saw the large buck in front of him, just 20 yards away.
Bowie raised his bow, pulled back the string and let the arrow fly. He was rewarded with a solid hit just above the deer’s front shoulder, one that would be certain to take his target down.
If Bowie were out in the woods, he’d have been excitedly rushing toward his prey, ready to claim his kill and fill his license. But instead, he was hunting indoors Friday afternoon on a virtual reality range at Fast Flight Archery, preparing for Saturday morning and the start of Maine’s expanded archery deer season.
