June E. Guay
LEWISTON – June E. Guay, 85, of Lewiston, passed away on Sept. 2, 2024.
She was born on Nov. 12, 1938, a daughter to William and Marie (Pelchat) Mitchell.
She was predeceased by her siblings, William Jr., Bernice, Carroll, Clarence, James; and son-in-law, Dave Pelletier.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 52 years Lionel C. Guay Jr.; along with four children, Anthony Gravel of Lewiston, Denise Dudek of Florida, Lionel Guay III and partner Ann Bosse of Litchfield, Nancy Grass and husband Alan of Sabattus; one brother-in-law, Normand Guay and wife Debra of Florida; five grandchildren, Tyson Ouellette of Florida, Sheena Glassey of Poland, Ashley Guay of Poland, Natasha Aston-Hill of Rockland, Caitlin Guay of Turner; eight great-grandchildren, Jullian, Autumn, Kylie, Gabriel, Jahnava, Chandrika, Kanhaiya, Gwendolyn; and a niece, Clarice of Bangor. She had a special relationship with her cousins Sylvie Maheux and Helene Pelchat of Canada; and a childhood friend, Carmen Larue of Ohio.
She was educated in the Lewiston school system and worked as a cashier for many years at Mammoth Mart and Shaw’s. June was a former member of the Women’s Auxiliary Knights of Columbus Council 106 and worked over 20 years with her husband in their family business, Lionel Guay Associates.
June was an avid reader and her hobbies included crafts, adult coloring, sewing, decorating her home, dragonflies and creating and painting carousel horses. She had a great love for her dogs, Buffy, Princess and Sophia May Rose.
She was an exceptional cook known for her candy, especially Needham’s, taffy, peanut brittle and her excellent lemon meringue pies and molasses cookies.
June and Lionel loved traveling to many destinations including Pennsylvania Amish country, Colonial Williamsburg and visiting their daughter and grandson in Florida. They also had a great love for the city of Quebec.
A visitation for June will take place on Sept. 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pinette, Dillingham and Lynch Funeral Home located at 305 Alfred A Plourde Parkway in Lewiston. A memorial service will take place following visitation at 1 p.m., with committal prayers to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care of The Fortin Group and Pinette, Dillingham and Lynch Funeral Homes.
In lieu of flowers, donations in June’s memory can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
