BUCKFIELD — Frederick M. Cooper Sr., 80, of Buckfield died Saturday, Oct. 8, at his home.
He was born at home in Buckfield, Dec. 17, 1930, the son of Ralph and Gladys MacKay Cooper, a lifelong resident of Buckfield, he attended local schools and graduated from Buckfield High School in 1950.
He then went on to serve in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt as an ordinance man and special weapons. Upon his return home, he married Joanne McAlister on June 15, 1956. They were married for 27 years and together they raised five children.
Fred worked at Wilner Wood Products in South Paris for 37 years, before retiring in 1983. Fred was a hard worker, dedicated family man and a wonderful father. His door was always open. Fred loved to garden, landscape and cook. His peas were always the first in town to be ready.
Many lively discussions regarding this topic were discussed by his coffee group in the mornings in Buckfield Village. Fred also had a great love for his pets and he loved driving around the town of Buckfield to see what was going on and having many memories. He enjoyed hunting and watching sports. His great sense of humor and laid back attitude were a source of inspiration to his children.
He will be sadly missed by his sons, Frederick M. Cooper Jr. of Buckfield, David and Lynn Cooper of Buckfield and Andrew and Patricia Cooper of Oxford; his daughters, Jeanine and Rod Parker of Sabattus and Julianne and Troy Eastman; grandchildren, Katelin and Kyle Cooper, Ashton Cooper, Jessica Cooper, Patrick Jones, Ben Jones, Kyle Jones, Michael and Katie Iannotti, Daniel and Jennifer Iannotti, Brad Parker, Emily, Abbie and Erin Eastman; great-grandchildren, Iaiden McGee, Anthony Santos, Marco Iannotti, Keegan Mennealy, Jocelynn Iannotti, Crissy and Amber Thompson, and Bailey Huff; his sister, Alice Chamberlain; a stepson, John Hanson; many nieces and nephews; and his cat, Zoe.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Gladys Cooper; his brothers, Winston, Earle and Donald Cooper; and his sister, Mary Kimball.
