100 Years Ago: 1924

Few people locally realized the variety of shoes manufactured in Lewiston-Auburn until the display by 10 manufacturers in one of the large show windows kindly lent for the purpose by the Androscoggin Electric Co., of Main Street.

50 Years Ago: 1974

Each year the Key Club of Saint Dominic’s Regional High School participates in a project that is beneficiary to the school. This year a big paint job is to begin at the Wallace Division of Saint Dom’s as soon as all the wall-plastering in the school is completed.

The Key Club members will be putting their time and effort into this project, painting the halls and classrooms with bright, attractive colors. Much of this work will be done on the weekends, some being accomplished after school.

The advisory committee for the Catholic Charities Maine SEARCH program have elected officers for the coming year.

Larry Lachance of Lewiston was re-elected to another term as chairman, and Gabriel Couture of Auburn was chosen as vice chairman. Other committee members include: Tina Gilbert, Judy Morin, Marguerita Pecorella and Carol Preo, all of Auburn, and Gloria Obie and Gertrude Perron of Lewiston.

SEARCH, which stands for Seek Elderly Alone, Renew Courage and Hope, is a nondenominational program offered by Catholic Charities Maine. Its purpose is to promote independent living for the elderly and those with disabilities. SEARCH volunteers provide home visits, telephone reassurance and a range of special services to more than 150 people throughout each year.
