BETHEL — Telstar collected its first win of the season thanks to a pair of goals by Nik Conrad and Case Thornton as the Rebels shut out Spruce Mountain 2-0 in a boys’ soccer game Tuesday.
Conrad punched in his goal on a Thornton assist in the first half. Thornton topped off the scoring when he scored his goal on a Tyler Brown feed.
Goalie Rick James made six saves for Telstar, which is now 1-1-10 with its initial win of the season.
Lewiston 2, Mt. Blue 0
LEWISTON — Senior forward Benji Saban planted a shot into the right side of the net nine minutes into the second half as Lewiston shut out Mt. Blue 2-0 in KVAC boys’ soccer actionTuesday.
Mohamed Ali added a buffer later in the frame for the Blue Devils (10-1-1).
Goalie Matt Crowley made eight saves for the Cougars (5-4-1), while goalie Eric Soucy turned away five shots to earn the win in net for Lewiston.
Mt. Abram 2, Carrabec 1
NORTH ANSON — Caulin Logan scored the game-winning goal with 40 seconds left in overtime, allowing Mt. Abram to escape with a 2-1 victory over stubborn Carrabec in a boys’ soccer game Tuesday.
Logan’s unassisted goal came in the final overtime when he punched in the game-winner off a deflection from the goalie.
In the first half, the Cobras struck first when Colby Fortin scored on a Nate Knox feed. But Mt. Abram (4-5-3) struck back when Ethan Boy scored on a Josh Beedy assist. The teams then played through a scoreless second half.
The Roadrunners dominated the game, outshooting Carrabec, 17-8, and held the advantage in corners at 6-0. Goalie Tristan Dyer made seven saves for Mt. Abram.
Monmouth 8, Winthrop 1
MONMOUTH — Kyle Fletcher and Nick Trenholm each registered hat tricks Tuesday as Monmouth easily overpowered Winthrop 8-1 in a late-season MVC boys’ soccer matchup.
Devon West and Ethan Bickford also tallied for the Mustangs (6-6) to complete the scoring. Kasey Smith needed only three saves to record the win.
The Ramblers received their lone goal from Conner Doyle, with an assist from Jake Vallee.
Cameron MacMillan turned aside 14 shots between the posts for Winthrop.
Edward Little 3, Oxford Hills 0
PARIS — Nate Blais registered a hat trick Tuesday as Edward Little rolled to a 3-0 victory over Oxford Hills in a KVAC boys’ soccer tilt.
Ian Therriault chipped in for the Red Eddies (4-7-1) with an assist, while Ben Bowles made 14 saves to notch the shutout.
Aaron Crockett turned back 12 shots in the cage for Oxford Hills (4-8).
Gray-New Gloucester 2, Poland 1
POLAND — Jake Street scored the game-winning goal with 7:13 remaining in regulation to lift Gray-New Gloucester to a 2-1 victory over Poland in boys’ soccer action Tuesday night.
Josh Kane put the Patriots (5-7-1) on the board first on a relay from Street just 3:41 into the contest.
The Knights (2-10) knotted the game when Alex Corcoran converted a penalty kick with 27:18 left to play.
Goalie Dillon Douglas made nine saves for Poland, while goalie Nick Rogers prevented three to earn the win in net for Gray-New Gloucester.
Girls’ soccer
Morse 3, Leavitt 0
TURNER — Katie Henrikson netted a pair of goals to propel Morse to a 3-0 victory over Leavitt in a late-season KVAC girls’ soccer tilt Tuesday.
Tori Field also tallied for the undefeated Shipbuilders (11-0) to complete the scoring. Henrikson’s goal’s came late in the first frame and just minutes into the second, putting Morse in control.
Sadie Crosby needed only four saves to notch the shutout, while Kelly Pomerleau turned aside 16 shots between the posts for Leavitt (5-3-3).
Spruce Mountain 2, Mt. Abram 0
SALEM — Alex Deering and Megan Duval each scored on breakaways in the first half, steering Spruce Mountain to
a 2-0 victory over Mt. Abram (6-5-1) in a girls’ soccer game Tuesday.
Despite outshooting the Phoenix, 14-2, the Roadrunners could only muster one goal in the second half. Brianna Daly scored on a penalty kick after Spruce Mountain was called for a trip in the box.
Spruce Mountain goalie Emily Keene made 12 saves to preserve her shutout.
Poland 3, Gray-NG 1
POLAND — Sophie Spiller led a trio of players to register goals Tuesday as a revitalized Poland hustled to a 3-1 victory over Gray-New Gloucester in a WMC girls’ soccer matchup.
Emily Bolduc and Emma Turton also tallied second-half goals for the Knights (4-9-0) to complete the scoring. Hayley Whitworth made four saves to record the win.
The Patriots (4-7-1) received their lone goal from Julia Martel, while Sammie Wilkins turned aside six shots between the posts.
EL 1, Oxford Hills 1
AUBURN — Despite a hard-fought effort on both squad’s behalf, Edward Little and Oxford Hills had to settle for a 1-1 tie in KVAC girls’ soccer action Tuesday.
Alyssa Andrews scored for the Vikings (6-2-4), while the Red Eddies (2-7-3) received a goal from Allaire Lever with an assist from Kate Sawyer.
Brie Martin made 13 saves for Oxford Hills, while Taylor Landry turned back a dozen shots for Edward Little.
Rangeley 2, Calvary Christian 0
RANGELEY — Shelby Elmes scored with 2:56 remaining in the first half to provide Rangeley with the eventual game-winning goal as the Lakers sank Calvary Christian 2-0 in girls’ soccer action Tuesday.
Senior Sandra Cambpell added a cushion for the Lakers in the second half on an assist from Jenney Abbott.
Goalie Meagan Warman made 13 saves for Calvary in the losing effort.
Field hockey
Mtn Valley 4, Dirigo 1
DIXFIELD — Mountain Valley received goals from four players en route to a 4-1 triumph over Dirigo in their field hockey regular-season finale Tuesday.
The Falcons opened a 3-1 cushion by intermission.
Ayla Allen, Peyton Provencher, Sam Glover and Becka Maifield scored goals for the Falcons.
Brittany Lapointe scored the long goal for the Cougars.
Emily Gallant made three saves for the victory, while Dirigo’s Betsy Noyes was credited with 15 saves.
Telstar 2, Spruce Mountain 2
JAY — The Telstar field hockey squad handed Spruce Mountain a late-season surprise Tuesday, rallying back from a 2-0 deficit to pull of a 2-2 tie against the divisional powerhouse.
Rachel Calden and Kathryn Ventrella gave the Phoenix (13-0-1) a 2-0 advantage in the first frame, with assists from Michaela Baron and Loryanne Tracy.
Susan Newkirk and Lindsay Merrill put the Rebels (6-5-2) back into contention with 20 and 10 minutes left, respectively, in the contest.
Hali Barter made 15 saves for Telstar, while Ashlee Quirrion turned abck seven shots for Spruce Mountain.
Lisbon 4, Hall-Dale 0
LISBON — After a slow start, Lisbon hit high gear in the second half and walked away with a 4-0 victory over Hall-Dale in an MVC field hockey contest Tuesday.
Arianna Kahler gave the powerhouse Greyhounds (11-2-1) a 1-0 advantage in the first frame, with an assist from Lindsay Whitney. Molly Nicholson tallied early in the second half to make it 2-0, while Whitney added two of her own with less than nine minutes left in regulation.
Devon Brewer didn’t need a single save to notch the shutout, while Hannah Perry was quite busy in the cage for Hall-Dale. Perry finished with 29 saves in the contest as Lisbon’s shots came almost non-stop.
Leavitt 11, Maranacook 0
READFIELD — Adrianna Newton scored two goals in each half as Leavitt lambasted Maranacook 11-0 in field hockey action Tuesday.
Casey Ficther and Kayla Royer tallied one goal apiece in the first half to give the Hornets (10-3-1) a comfortable 4-0 lead at the midpoint.
Following a dull first half in goal for Leavitt, Taylor Eells scored twice in the second half to compliment five other tallies. Sierra Santamango took over in net in the second half and made a single save to finish the shutout.
Goalie Brianna Goetz turned back nine shots in net for the Black Bears (0-13-1) in the losing effort.
