100 Years Ago: 1924

While Benjamin Franklin Chandler of Portland is asking for an annulment of his marriage nearly four years ago to Mrs. Hazel Conant, a friend of long standing.

Mrs. Conant is living happily with her first husband, Aibion Conant, with whom she was reunited after she thought he had been killed out west, at 13 High street, Lewiston.

50 Years Ago: 1974

A hike up New Hampshire’s Wildcat Mountain and a downward trip in the gondolas featured on the popular ski mountain highlighted a field trip Saturday for some 100 seventh graders at Auburn’s Central School.

The trip to Wildcat and nearby Glen Ellis Falls was organized and led by Leo L’Heureux of the school faculty and included lunch at a Gorham restaurant at the conclusion of the all-day jaunt.

25 Years Ago: 1999

Increased competition from Asian manufacturers has forced Forster Inc. of Strong to lay off about 20 workers who make wooden clothespins, a human resource manager for the Wilton-based company said late Friday afternoon.
