WIND SHORTENS SOCCER MATCHUPS-On Saturday the boys and girls soccer teams from Vinalhaven High School traveled to Bethel to play Telstar. Because trees downed by wind on Route 219, the teams were late arriving for the first game, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. But the squads also had to leave by 2 p.m. to make the ferry back to their island home. So instead of full length matches, the teams instead played half hour ones. Here, Telstar girls’ team player Hayley Smith winds up for a shot on goal.  The girls teams tied 1-1 while the Telstar boys won 8-0.    Alison Aloisio
