WALES — Duane R. Hamel, 48, a resident of Wales, died unexpectedly early Monday, Oct. 10, in Lewiston, where he was visiting a friend.

He was born Aug. 26, 1963, in Miami, Fla., the son of Felix W. and Marjorie (Addison) Hamel. Duane graduated from Oak Hill High School in Wales.

His many jobs included working at Roaring Brook Nursery in Wales, Morin Brick Yard in Auburn and Enterprise Foundry in Lewiston. Duane enjoyed craw fish trapping, collecting antiques and working at the nursery. He was a member of the Fellowship Church in Greene.

He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Hamel of Clermont, Fla.; a brother, Felix (Rocky) Hamel of Bangor; a sister, Lori Blier and husband, Paul, of Wales; former wife, Colleen Hamel of Sabattus; three stepsons, Brandon, Mike and Jacob Burnham; nieces and nephews, Ilea Blier, Heath Blier and wife, Rachel, Nick Hamel and wife, Missy, Ashley Walter and husband, Jacob, Renae Hamel and Brianna Hamel; and his companion, Karen Mortenson, of Lewiston.

He was predeceased by his dad, Felix W. Hamel in 2005.
