Elizabeth Twitchell
TURNER – It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth A. Twitchell of Turner, on Thursday Nov. 8, 2024, at the age of 83. She was surrounded by her family, feeling the love she had given us all as devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Betty was born on March 27, 1941, to Bernadette Ouelette Despres and Alfred S. Despres. She graduated from Monadnock Academy in Jaffrey, N.H., in 1959 and Keene State College in 1963. She went on to teach for 15n years in high schools in Jaffrey, N.H., Maui, Hawaii, and Lewiston.
Betty Anne was married to the love of her life and beloved husband, Terry Twitchell on June 15, 1967.
Together they traveled with friends and spent many happy times at Brassua where she loved to swim. She also very much enjoyed spending a week every summer at a beach house on Popham Beach, where she always wanted family and friends to congregate and spend time together. They started Twitchell’s Hardware in Turner which they owned until its sale in 1995. Following the sale of the business, Betty enjoyed working for several seasons as a customer service phone representative for LL Bean.
Betty expressed her love of education and books through her work with Bonney Fund and Turner Public Library. She loved reading, poetry, gardening, traveling and her Ladies’ Book Group.
She is survived by her husband, Terry; son, Eric Twitchell and his wife Amy of Brunswick; daughter, Kerry Les and her husband Kris of Pownal; grandchildren, Charlotte Twitchell, Deane Twitchell, Briggs Twitchell and his wife Adrian, Grace Twitchell, Alex Les and Joe Les; Robert Despres of Fairhaven, Vt., David Despres of Ocala, Fla., sisters, Pamela Parrish of Keene, N.H., and Marguerite Paige of Springfield, Vt., and numerous loved nieces and nephews.
