LEWISTON — Nancy Jane DeWitt, 80, of Auburn, died in the early morning of Friday, Oct. 14. She was predeceased by her identical twin sister, Norma Erickson, and her brother, Jim DeWitt, and is survived by her sister, Barbara Webb, and her brother, Jack DeWitt. Although she never married or had children, Nancy is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Among them are the children of her identical twin, Nancy Erickson, Barbara Klock, Cathleen Bender, Karen Bender and Beth Villa. Aunt Nancy was a close family member and caring support to them for as long as they can remember, and she will be sorely missed.
Nancy was born on Sept. 5, 1931, in San Diego, Calif., where she was also raised. As a young woman, she joined the U.S. Army and served overseas during the Korean War. After discharge, she returned to San Diego and as a young adult began a study of the bible that led her to become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Throughout her life thereafter, Nancy treasured her relationship with her Creator and strove to be a good Christian. She worked as a bookkeeper, loved cats and was a tremendous support to her twin sister. Although she hated the cold, she spent the last few years in Maine with her family and with her niece and namesake, Nancy, as her constant and loving companion.
We love you, Auntie. Rest safe in God’s memory until we see you again.
