BRIDGTON — The Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club is delighted to continue its dictionary program. On Thursday, November 14, Rotarians distributed dictionaries to each of the children in the three third grades at Stevens Brook Elementary School.
Rotarian and Project Team Leader Erin Nelson of Norway Savings Bank remarked, “This has been an important project for me, my family, and the Rotary Club for 10 years now. We wondered about continuing it in this day of electronics, but in the end, we decided to put books – dictionaries, in the hands of children. It can be used with the Literacy Program we are supporting at SBES and by classroom teachers who use dictionaries in the classroom.”
Rotarians George Klauber, Ann and Dan Lasman, Joanne Cohn, and Carol Madsen distributed the dictionaries to the third graders who had all assembled in one classroom for the event. The children responded with delight. Rotarian Joanne Cohn, the Rotary Club’s Literacy Team leader, said “We’ll use the dictionaries when working one-on-one with the students. It will help them with their reading and comprehension. So far, Rotarians and Friends of Rotary are loving the year-long literacy project.”
The Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club is pleased to work with children and have an impact on their lives. It is always a pleasure to work at Stevens Brook Elementary School. A big shout out to Principal Valerie Young for making Rotary projects possible there.
This week, dictionaries will be delivered to the Crooked River Elementary School and distributed to students in the four third-grade classrooms there.
The Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club is committed to service and seeks to support projects in the community. Many of the local projects are an outgrowth of members’ dreams to make a difference in the region.
