ANDOVER – Silas R. Sherry, 92, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris. He was a resident of Andover.
Silas was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Sept. 24, 1932, and was a son of Charles and Anita Steinberg. Upon graduating from Brooklyn Technical High School he enlisted in the U.S. Army and shipped out to Korea during the war. Silas served as a Corporal in the ordinance division from 1950 to 1953. He was incredibly proud of his military service.
Upon his return, Silas received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from NYU and worked for an advertising agency in the city. After relocating his family to Eastern Massachusetts, he joined Elliott Business Machines/Dymo Industries as advertising and sales promotion manager, completed a Masters in Political Science at Northeastern University, and later worked for Howard Johnsons and Hub Mail Advertising.
Sy retired to Maine where he participated in building his own home. He spent time there doing the things he loved – being with his family, target shooting, woodworking, hiking and boating. He had a sharp wit and quick sense of humor, enjoyed watching and discussing movies, reading, history, and valued the nature and wildlife around him.
Sy is survived by his loving family– his three daughters, Laura, Leatrice and Tyra, his granddaughter, Nicole and his great grandson, Owen.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. Arrangements are under the direction of the Meader & Son Funeral Home 3 Franklin St Rumford.
