Those of us who participate in harness racing hope voters will support Question 2.

The new racino in Biddeford will create jobs in construction, entertainment, hospitality and at the racetrack, which will be open through the winter.

We need jobs in Maine now, and the developers on this project are ready to go once voters give them the thumbs-up.

The harness racing industry in Maine should be allowed to compete on a level playing field with other states that have racinos. The truth is that the racinos in states such as New Jersey, Delaware and New York are successful operations that employ thousands of people.

If it’s allowed, Biddeford Downs wouldn’t just benefit horse owners, it would help farmers who grow hay, agricultural supply shops, veterinarians and others. The racino will also provide much needed revenue for Biddeford and for the state.

The people of Biddeford voted for the racino last year. The rest of the state should approve that vote this year.
