Richard “Dick” Ronald Courtemanche

NAPLES, Fla. – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard “Dick” Ronald Courtemanche, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, and dedicated community member. Dick passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Jan. 13, 2025, in Naples, Fla., at the age of 79.

Born on March 27, 1945, in Lewiston, Dick was the beloved son of Fernand and Irene Courtemanche. He was raised in a large, loving family that shaped his values of faith, loyalty, and hard work.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Denis, his sister and brother-in-law, Claire and Charles “Chuck” Tennyson, and his sister-in-law, Helga Courtemanche.

He is survived by his siblings, Donald Courtemanche (Linda), Roland Courtemanche, Doris Maheu (Claude), Robert Courtemanche (Claire), Gile Courtemanche (Linda), Linda Ray (Randall), and Paul Courtemanche (Louise); as well as numerous nieces, nephews; and extended family whose names he lovingly remembered, even when they were sometimes a challenge to keep straight.

Dick was the devoted and loving husband of nearly 60 years to his best friend and soulmate, Dianna Courtemanche. They married on May 22, 1965, and together, they built a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Dick was the proud father of Mark (Jennifer) and Michael (Renee), and a delighted grandfather to Evan (Nhat Nguyen), Kyle, Chelsea (Jared Tippens), Logan (Nate Ferrell), Samuel, and Anna. He was also overjoyed to be a great-grandfather to Rory Tippens. His family meant everything to him, and he considered them his greatest blessing.

Dick’s education at St. Dominic’s High School in Lewiston and his lifelong faith, nurtured at St. Joseph’s and Holy Family Churches, were the cornerstones of his life. He proudly served in the National Guard from 1963 to 1969, demonstrating his commitment to his country and his community.

With a career spanning over 50 years, Dick dedicated his professional life to Modern Woodmen of America, where he served as district manager, helping thousands of families in the Lewiston/Auburn area while mentoring many colleagues in their own careers. A lifetime member of the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), Dick’s unwavering integrity and commitment to excellence set the standard for those around him.

Outside of work, Dick led a full and vibrant life. An avid tennis player and golfer, he cherished the camaraderie of his time on the courts and course, always playing for fun rather than competition, even if he never quite broke 100.

In his youth, he loved being part of the Crusaders Car Club and had a special affection for his 1959 Corvette. Throughout his life, he stayed active with local softball and hockey leagues, and he enjoyed tackling home improvement projects and dabbling in real estate.

One of his greatest pleasures was taking long walks along Old Orchard Beach, indulging in ice cream “with just a little strawberry sauce” alongside his beloved Dianna, and attending his grandchildren’s events, where his support was unwavering.

Dick’s generous spirit, warm smile, and quick sense of humor made him a friend to all and a pillar of his community. He lived a life full of passion, resilience, and love, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Dick’s life will take place at the Fortin and Pinette Group, Alfred Plourde Parkway in Lewiston. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 29 from 3 to 6 p.m. with a liturgy of the word to immediately follow at 6 p.m..
