LEWISTON — Author James Witherell of Lewiston will give an illustrated talk on his new book, “L.L. Bean: The Man and His Company” on Thursday, Oct 27, at the Lewiston Public Library.
The 7 p.m. program in Callahan Hall is free.
Witherell grew up in Maine, first visiting L.L. Bean’s store when customers had to climb a creaking set of wooden stairs to get to it. As an avid cyclist, hiker, map maker and Registered Maine Guide, he has had plenty of experience with Bean gear, including a stint working for the company.
About five years ago, Witherell started research for the book. “It’s been a fascinating process,” he said. “A lot of people shared their stories with me, and my research has turned up some information that the company archivist probably doesn’t know about.”
“L.L. Bean: the Man and His Company” was published this summer by Tilbury House. A book signing will follow the talk.
