Jean A. Labbe

JAY – Jean A. Labbe, 83, a resident of Jay, passed away on Feb. 20, 2025 at her home, to be with her parents, Ronald and Dorothy (Mayo) Therrien. Jean suffered a stroke on Sept. 15 and was not able to fully recover from it.

Jean was a graduate of Wilton Academy. Jean worked for her parents at Chisholm Bakery where she did a beautiful job decorating cakes, she also decorated many birthday cakes for her children, Randy, Rhonda and Kevin. Jean worked as a receptionist for many years at Dr. Cyr’s dental office in Livermore Falls and later worked at The Flower Barn in Jay.

She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, a member of the Democratic Party and former Girl Scout Leader when her daughter Rhonda participated.

When her mother, Dorothy, became ill with Alzheimer’s, Jean became an advocate for local people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. She and her siblings created a team and walked in the Alzheimer’s Walk in Scarborough for many years.

Jean was very proud of her home and could be seen mowing her lawn and making sure not a leaf could be found on her lawn during the fall months. This last week she enjoyed watching the birds eating berries and telling everyone spring was coming.

Jean had a special group of friends, Linda, Bonnie, Nancy and Carrie, that would play Rummy Cubes to pass the time and to keep an everlasting bond. Jean looked forward to calling her brother, Barry every night at 7 p.m. to discuss what was new in today’s politics. She had a special bond with her “twin” Joanne Mayo. They enjoyed going out to eat and trips to Five Islands. Jean will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister and friend.

She is survived by her children, Randy Labbe (Margaret) of Hartford, Kevin Labbe (Leigh) of Salem, Mass., and Rhonda Hartford (Michael) of Wilton; her sisters Doreen Maxwell of Hartford, Teri Gordon (Mike) of Turner, Jane Woolford (Stan) of Florida, brothers Barry Therrien (Julie) of Livermore, and Robert Therrien of Utah; six grandchildren, Nicole, Danielle, Tiffany, Brandon, Jacob and Devan; 11 great-grandchildren; and one on the way; and close cousin and best friend, Joann Mayo.
