Robert “Banjo Bob” Boothby
CASCO – Robert “Banjo Bob” Boothby, 87, passed peacefully on Feb. 10, 2025 while residing at Country Village Assisted Living in Casco.
Bob was born in Medford, Mass. to Lloyd and Mary Eleanor (Tolman) Boothby. He graduated Orono High School, class of 1955. He attended University of Maine Orono and served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1957-1961. Bob’s career was in the U.S. Government working for the Bureau of Immigration and Internal Revenue Service retiring in 1994 after 35 years of service.
In 1962, Bob married Linda Brown. Sadly, in 1979, while living in Auburn, Bob lost Linda to cancer and was left to raise their three children, Christopher, Jonathan and Rebecca. In his later years, Bob moved to Coffee Pond in Casco and wintered in Melbourne, Fla. In 2003, he met Sharon LeClair who became his loving companion.
Music was a big part of Bob’s life. He was well known for his banjo playing but also played the guitar and mandolin. This brought him immense joy as well as many lifelong friends. Over the years he has played with the Cumberland Ridge Runners, White Mountain Bluegrass, The Danville Junction Boys and Mac MacHale and the Old Time Radio Gang among others.
Bob was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Linda; and his sister, Nancy.
He is survived by his children, Christopher Boothby and his wife Julie, Jonathan Boothby, Rebecca Conley and her husband Scott; grandchildren Grace and Lily Boothby, Blake and Savannah Conley; sister, Dorothea Titcomb and her husband Alan; many nieces and nephews; and his loving companion, Sharon LeClair.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, at the Naples American Legion Post #155, 26 Casco Rd. in Naples. Interment will be at the Limington cemetery.
Arrangements are in the care of the Hall Funeral Home, 165 Quaker Ridge Rd. in Casco where condolences and tributes may be shared at http://www.hallfuneralhome.net.
