Elizabeth “Betty” Curtis Agathos

LISBON FALLS – Betty passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, with her loving husband by her side. She was born in Lisbon Falls on Nov. 19, 1931, to the late Margaret and Alden Curtis.

Betty attended Lisbon Schools and was a graduate of Lisbon High School class of 1950. In 1952 she married the love of her life and high school sweetheart Richard (Bud) Agathos. They lived in California and Washington State during his naval career and upon returning to Maine they owned and operated Little John’s and Richard’s Restaurant.

Betty also began a career with the State of Maine Unemployment office and retired in 1970. During that time Betty and her husband traveled to several states and countries. Winters were spent in Florida and summers in Maine.

Betty was a talented seamstress, making clothes for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, making hats, mittens and scarfs for many, along with needlepoint and Swedish weaving.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed attending their school functions and sporting events. She was their biggest cheerleader.

Betty is survived by Bud, her loving husband of 72 years; her daughters, Julie Agathos Gile, Janice Mitchell (Mike); her granddaughters, Bethany Gile (Jon Kramarz), Lindsay Purtill (Matthew Purtill); great grandchildren, Emily Kramarz, Tristan Kramarz, Aubrey Purtill, Tarynn Purtill, Callen Purtill. She is also survived by her brother Stetson Curtis of Wiscasset; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister Margaret Curtis, brothers Harry and Quintin Curtis.
