Leona Angelia (Harmon) Roberts

LISBON – Leona Angelia Harmon Roberts, 99, of Lisbon, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 5, 2025 after a short illness.

The daughter of Frances Helen Harmon and Keller Foster Harmon of Hadley Lake, East Machias, the youngest of 13 children. She attended local schools and went to college and graduated from what is now the University of Maine Machias with a teachers degree. She was a lifelong member of The Order of the Eastern Star.

She taught in the Machias and Springfield schools before marrying Adelbert “Del” Roberts on July 28, 1946. They settled down to raise a family in East Machias. Her son, Barry, was born on Feb. 20, 1951. They moved to Lincoln where she taught in local schools. Moved to New Gloucester where she taught for years.

Met and adopted their son, Donald. After the boys graduated from Gray-New Gloucester schools, they moved to Durham and taught in the Lisbon schools. She substituted in Durham schools until their retirement.

After retirement, they wintered in Lady Lake, Fla. for many years, then moved to Poland, then Buckfield a few years later where Del passed on Aug. 4, 2015. After Del’s death, Leona moved for the last time to Lisbon where she lived until her death.

She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Barry and Paula Roberts of North Yarmouth and Donald and Leanora Roberts of Westbrook; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and a large extended family.

A celebration of life will be planned in the future. Burial will be a family gathering.
